An end-to-end reimagining of the interactions between DSPs, artists and consumers and how we monetise music on the web.

Funded by Grant for the Web, an initiative by Mozilla, Creative Commons and Coil, Kendraio Pay is an open-source project all about reimagining and innovating monetisation for the music industry on the web, in a way that contributes to a healthier, fairer and more transparent internet.

Kendraio Pay and its components, Kendraio Player and Kendraio Stream, collectively form a simple proof-of-concept of an end-to-end streaming player that uses technology by CoilUphold and the Interledger protocol.

We want to imagine what it would look like to give the power back to the musician. Kendraio Stream allows artists to publish to multiple DSPs at once through one interface, using a payment stack that works for all of them. Consumers can also listen to content from several DSPs in one interface. Kendraio Pay lets artists manage their royalties in real-time. Our goal is to minimise cumbersome admin, make it easier to collaborate, and conceptualise a more user-centric way to monetise music on the web. By doing so, artists can strive to become more independent and further their career.

When an artist signs up for Kendraio Player, you’ll be assigned a “payment pointer”. This will be your “wallet address”, to which all of your music and metadata will be linked to. Whenever your music is streamed, the player automatically knows where your royalties should be paid to and settlements will be done in real-time in the (crypto) currency of your choice. Additionally, you’ll have access to a wider overview of your statistics on plays, fan engagement and income all in one dashboard.
